In the ongoing search of tips and tricks I wanted to see how others handled the finishing of window film in relation to the application. As of posting we have found it best to back cut slightly and apply clear tape to the edges which has so far been our best solution to premature delamination.

I have seen window perf tucked under the weather stripping, trimmed to the edge, covered with edge sealer and covered with laminate strips/clear tape.

I prefer to trim on the edge (like Ford van windows) using the slight bevel on the glass edge as a guide. This cuts at a slight angle and ensures that there is no vinyl hanging over the edge. One is actually tested on this during the PDAA Master Certification testing.

In the past, I have used the clear tape/laminate method you describe. I guess its a pretty cheap insurance policy. I have found that its on the side of overkill and I have had one customer complain about how it looks--there isn't a really good way to apply it around the radius corners of some windows.

Now we just make sure to handle the vinyl with extreme care, ensuring that we don't stretch it--all window perf is calendered. We take our time trimming it out and make sure to re-squeegee the edges. We haven't had any problems--of course I just jinxed myself. I will probably get a phone call today!

Has anyone tried the PERFe.c.t.? It's a tool for trimming window perf aroung seals and window edges. I bought one a few weeks ago, and I may be stupid, but can't get it to cut straight! It's a good idea, but it doesn't seem to stay in place as I'm cutting around a window. Just wondered if anyone has had any better luck with it? icon_rolleyes.gif

We bought the same tool almost a year ago and weren't able to cut straight with it either. I agree the idea is good, but it doesn't translate into actually using it. We just free hand the edge now which is actually straighter.
